
Upper West Region has several Technical Schools cut across all 11 districts and municipalities. Some of the notable oldest technical schools have Developed notable Technical human resources into very key Institutions such as VRA, Ghana TVET Service, Ghana Education Service, Ghana Health Service, Security Services etc dome Notable technical Institutions in the region are:
St. Bastlides Vocational-Technical Institute: St. Basilides Technical and Vocational Training Institute-Nadowli/Kaleo District in the Upper West Region launched its 50th Anniversary in October 2022. The institute, established on the 5th of February, 1973, The establishment of the school came as an idea from three Catholic brothers – John Van Winden, Henry Schurs (Borgias), and Jos Van Dinther – as a result of their great concern to create opportunities for young people.
The original concept to establish a technical institute in the area was introduced in 1972, after realising that there was no formal training institute to give the youth of the area any formal education under the then Upper Regions, of which the present Upper West Region formed part.
It was realised that the nearest place to seek for technical education was in Bawku in the Upper East Region and Tamale in the Northern Region. This long-distance challenge for students led to the establishment of the institute.
Wa Technical Institute Was Established in1993 as a mixed School in oder to Assist other schools like st. Bastlides Vocational Technical School to champion tye course of Technical Education in the Upper West Region.
St. John’ Vocational aka Nandom Technical Institute:
St.John’S Voc. Tech. Institute is a Day/Boarding located in Nandom Municipality. Its a Mixed School. Te School Launched its 50th Anniversary in October 2022. It was established in early 70s.
Tumu St. Claire Vocational School. St Claire Vocational school is one of four vocational schools in the Upper West region. In 1967, a tripartite National Manpower Board comprising representatives of the government,
employers (Industry) and workers (Labour) was established in order to plan effective development
and utilization of human resource in accordance with the expected socio-economic development of the country.
The following training programs are
available:
Instructor and Master Craftsman Training and Apprentice.
Also, Wa Naa Momori Technical School Formerly Wa Community Vocational School. The School was established in 1987 by the Ghanaian Government to produce skill oriented girls in Technical Education to create their own Jobs when they exit School.
The school has been renamed in memory of one of Wa’s Overloads.
Lastly, Nakore technical Institute. One of the Oldest Technical Schools Established over 15 Years ago is located few meters away from the electoral commission’s Office in Wa. The school is specialized in Training students on weaving and general Fashion design. Its a government accredited Institution.
