AMINU SULEMANIThe Upper West Regional Minister, Alhaji Amin Amidu Sulemani, has charged chiefs in the region to follow through with laid down procedures for en-skinning chiefs in order to avoid conflicts.

According to him, chiefs played an important role in peace building and development, but that mandate is being hindered by recurring chieftaincy conflicts.

Alhaji Sulemani was speaking at the outdooring of the Paramount Chief of the Ullo Traditional area in the Upper West Region, Naa Alhaji Seidu Amadu Babooronone.

In his address, the Regional Minster lamented the paramountcies that were without chiefs because of the chieftaincy disputes.

“There are some pockets of chieftaincy disputes in some parts of the region which are likely to mar the peace of the region and slow our development process. It is unfortunate to see that there are vacant paramountcies in the region due to chieftaincy disputes.”

Alhaji Sulemani thus urged the chiefs to use the required procedures for selecting chiefs saying, “I therefore call on our chiefs to use the laid down procedures in selecting chiefs to fill the vacancies created.”

He also urged chiefs to use their influence to promote peace and development.

“They [Chiefs] should also use their revered positions in the promotion of peace and development as well as exhibiting a high sense of integrity in order to transform their communities.”
