The players of Ghana’s senior national team, the Black Stars, have accepted a 20% reduction in winning bonuses.

Each player will now be paid US$ 8,000 dollars having previously been paid US$ 10,000 for every victory.

The new payment structure will take effect from this month’s (March) two 2017 African Cup of Nations qualifiers against Mozambique.

The agreement was reached after a meeting between the players and news Sports Minister Nii Lante Vanderpuye.

Present was Captain Asamoah Gyan as well as deputy skipper Andre Ayew, who is out injured but joined the meeting via phone in the latest successful negotiation.

This followed an initial meeting where the players agreed with the minister to be paid in Cedis all in an aim to adjust to the difficult economic conditions in the country.

Remuneration for the Black Stars players came under scrutiny after the 2014 FIFA World Cup finals in Brazil where players demanded being paid their appearance fees before their final Group match against Portugal.

Past ministers adopted a ‘take-it-or-leave-it’ approach and that did yield any dividends.

Ghana beat Mozambique 3-1 last Thursday in their third Group H qualifier and will play the reverse fixture this Sunday in Maputo.
