Maurice Asola Fadola escaped from the prison
last week. Sources within the Prisons Service
say the issue is creating discomfort within the
rank and file of the service as a directive has
been issued for his re-arrest before the matter
becomes public. Fadola last year defrauded some British
widows and pensioners of about £800,000. He
reportedly posed as an Army General who
needed money for emergency medical
services.
He was subsequently arrested and slapped with a five-year jail term by the Financial
Division of the High court in Accra after his
victims filed a complaint of his activities with
the police. Fadola was also convicted on 28
counts of defrauding by false pretenses.
