The Ghana Immigration Service started as the Immigration and Passport Unit of the Gold Coast Colonial Police Force under the command of Mr. Nevile C. Hill. On attainment of independence in 1957, the rapid expansion of the economy coupled with Ghana’s role as a trailblazer in the African liberation struggle led to the country being swamped with foreign businessmen, tourists and African aliens. To control this influx, a Cabinet decision in 1960 transferred the Immigration Unit to the Ministry of the Interior as a separate department, while the Ministry of Foreign Affairs took over the issuing of passports. These measures were taken to enhance service delivery. Three (3) years later, the aliens Act 1963, Act 160 was enacted to give legal backing to immigration operations.

GHANA IMMIGRATION SERVICE RECRUITMENT ENTRY REQUIREMENTS.
GIS Recruitment/Enlistment Recruitments for Graduate
All Graduate candidates are to satisfy the following requirements:
• Must be a Ghanaian citizen by birth with no criminal record.
• Must possess a first Degree not below a Second Class Lower in Social Sciences/Humanities from an accredited University.
• Must have completed his/her National Service.
• Must be computer Literate.
• Must be of a minimum age of 21 and not more than 28 years by 31st December, 2016.
• Must be physically and medically fit.
• Must be of good character.
• Must not be bonded.
• Must have a minimum height of 1.73metres (5ft 8inch) for Males and 1.63 metres (5ft 4inch) for Female.
• Have Five/5 Credits in subjects (Not less than grade 6) at BECE including English and a Pass in Mathematics. • Have Five/5 Credits in subjects (Not less than grade C6) at SSSCE/WASSCE including English and a Pass in Mathematics.
GIS Recruitment/Enlistment Recruitments for Non Graduate Entry (Recruits)
All Recruits candidates are to satisfy the following requirements:
• Must be a Ghanaian citizen by birth with no criminal record.
• Must hold SSSCE/WASSCE Certificate with Five (5) credits including English Language and a pass in Mathematics.
• Must be of a minimum age of 18 and not more than 26 years by 31st December, 2016.
• Must be physically and medically fit.
• Must be of good character.
• Must not be bonded.
• Must have a minimum height of 1.73metres (5ft 8inch) for Males and 1.63 metres (5ft 4inch) for Female.

GHANA IMMIGRATION SERVICE RECRUITMENT APPLICATION –HOW TO APPLY
NB: Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) Recruitment / Enlistment Exercise for 2017/2018 intake has not yet commenced. This page will be updated once the GIS 2017 Recruitment begins. Beware of Frandsters.
Carefully read through the entry and recruitment instructions on this page before proceeding to apply for GIS enlistment. Make your decisions and take note of all required data in the subsequent steps.
1. Visit the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) Recruitment Portal via http://apply.joingis.com /
2. Click on the Apply Now tab and enter the e-voucher serial and pin code details. Select your highest educational level.
3. Select preferred branch and enter your Bio and Educational data and upload a passport sized picture of dimension (200×180) pixels before submitting.
4. Print out a copy of the application summary report, which contains details of your Applicant Identification (ID Number) and other relevant data.
5. Once the application is successfully submitted you can come back before the closing date to print your
summary report with help of the card purchased.

IMPORTANT: Supply only genuine data about yourself (Bio & Educational). Any form of false data submitted would not be treated lightly by GIS command, and defaulters would be apprehended and prosecuted.

GIS RECRUITMENT E-VOUCHERS
Make sure to buy your e-voucher from any of the Ghana Commercial Bank branches across the country. You will need the serial number and the pincode from the e-voucher before starting the registration process.

GIS RECRUITMENT – SCREENING AND EXAMINATION
Shortlisted applicants will be contacted by e-mail for Screening and Examination at the Screening Centre
selected during the online application

GIS RECRUITMENT TRAINING

Only applicants who are successful in the Screening Examination will be invited for training.
