
This year’s 38th National Farmers Day Celebrations was held at Hain under the theme “ACCELERATING AGRICULTURAL DEVELOPMENT THROUGH VALUE ADDITION”.
ALHAJI SIITA SALIFU, a native of Hain was crowned this year Overall Best Farmer in Jirapa Municipality, he received a tricycle, Certificate and others in recognition of his hard work.
Speaking at the event, the Municipal Chief Executive Hon. Lawyer Nicholas Soyiri expressed gratitude to all Farmers in the Municipality for their enormous contribution towards the development and sustainability of food security.
He noted, under the Government flagship program Planting for Food and Jobs, the Municipality received a total of 450bags of subsidized NPK and sold by input dealers.
On the open market fertilizer a total of 10,000 bags of NPK were received and sold. 1,370 kg of Maize Hybrid seed were equally received and sold to farmers.
Under Planting for Export and Rural Development, the Municipal Assembly supported the Department of Agriculture to raised 25,000 cashew seedlings which were distributed.
He reported, 216 liters of various pesticides namely; Adepa, Eradicot, Emma star and Agoo were supplied to prevent the outbreak and spread of pests and diseases.
He admonished communities to safeguard their environment and stop bush burning as the act affect climate change activities.
He acknowledged the support of residence in the Municipality, Chiefs, Farmers Day Planning Committee, the host Community, Development Partners for their remarkable contribution towards the successful celebration of the event.
He congratulated award winners and entreat all Farmers in the Municipality to work hard to enable them win award in the coming years.
