PETITION FROM COALITION FOR JUSTICE FOR LAWYER RICHARD BADOMBIE TO THE INSPECTOR GENERAL OF POLICE (IGP)

We, members of the Coalition For Justice For Lawyer Richard Badombie with deep sorrow and trauma wish to petition your high office over the murder of our beloved friend, brother, father, uncle and son, Honorable Richard Badombie Esq. who was gruesomely murdered in the Savannah Region by unidentified gunmen while he was traveling home from Accra to Jirapa.

The late Lawyer Richard Badombie was a true law-abiding citizen who paid his dues to nation building. As an illustrious son, the Kuncheni Electoral Area Assembly Member (Hon. Lawyer Richard Badombie) was a revered key figure from Jirapa, well respected across the length and breadth of the entire Upper West Region and beyond and as such, a lot of people particularly the youth took him as a role model. His gruesome murder has therefore not only taken away a role model but also a great mentor and a source of inspiration to all of us.

We have been robbed of an invaluable pillar to the Jirapa Municipality and we wish to mention that the only thing that can alleviate our pains is if our slain friend and brother finds justice. His killers must be brought to book!

We wish to reiterate that it is with heavy grief and unbearable pain that we bring the facts in this petition to your notice.
We wish to respectfully state that the family and friends of slain Lawyer Richard Badombie including all well-meaning sons and daughters of the Jirapa Municipality are all living in utter fear and panic over the violence visited on Lawyer Richard Badombie. This legitimate fear and panic are as a result of some unanswered questions such as: Who killed Lawyer Richard Badombie and why? Who may be next to be killed?

While our fears are high, we trust you and call on you to ensure that justice is pursued and served accordingly to disabuse the growing perception of lawlessness that seem to engulf our nation. As concerned citizens and members of the Coalition For Justice For Lawyer Richard Badombie, we are looking up to your noble outfit to give us reasons to live in our motherland without fear and panic.

It is sad to recount that many people have been murdered in a similar manner without the perpetrators being brought to book. Some of these killings were not remote from us at all. Notable among them are, a mobile vendor who was shot dead in cold blood at Kyoobariyiri, a suburb of Jirapa while he was returning home from work. As if that was not enough, Mr. Stephen Maane a native of Jirapa municipality was also killed in a similar manner. In all these, we are yet to see justice for them. For how long do we continue to live in this? We are really scared and need answers to the many questions that continue to linger on our minds.

As a group made up of all well-meaning sons and daughters of Jirapa including the members of the bereaved family, Coalition For Justice For Lawyer Richard Badombie humbly and respectfully makes the following appeals:

1. We call on you to work in tandem with the requisite state institutions as you strengthen your collective efforts to ensure that the perpetrators of this dastardly act are brought to face the full rigors of the laws of Ghana. In effect, we are saying that no effort should be spared in seeking Justice for Lawyer Richard Badombie.

2. That, thorough investigations are conducted to unravel the circumstances leading to the murder of Lawyer Richard Badombie, identifying all persons who are complicit in this heinous crime of taking the fundamental human right to life of Honourable Lawyer Richard Badombie and making all such persons to face full rigors of the law. We would appeal to your good office to involve the family of the slain lawyer in these investigations as they may be able to provide useful information that may assist in the investigations.

3. That, the confidence level we have in our security agencies be revamped to assure the good people of this country that, everyone is safe and that, our democracy is not for the selected few and the rest of us being at the mercy of these criminals.
Respectfully, we look forward to receiving a favorable response. While not intending to mar the investigations, we are giving an ultimatum of fourteen (14) days within which the Police Administration must furnish us with some answers, at the minimum, update us about the status of the investigations if any. We refuse to allow our brother and friend to die like a fowl. We also urge the general public to assist the Police by volunteering information that may assist in the investigations into the murder of Lawyer Richard Badombie.

Long live Jirapa!
Long live the youth of Jirapa!
Short live the killers of Lawyer Richard Badombie!
Thank you.
