
The Upper West Regional Minister, Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih, presented certificates to 21 health workers from Jirapa Municipal and Nadowli-Kaleo District on behalf of the President of Ghana for their outstanding contribution to the fight against COVID-19. The presentation of certificates was held in Jirapa on May 28, 2023.
The COVID-19 pandemic that hit Ghana in 2020 disrupted every aspect of the country’s economy and way of life. To control the spread of the deadly virus, the government put stringent measures in place. Health workers were identified as frontline workers to ensure that the spread of the virus was contained.
The Upper West Regional Director of Ghana Health Services indicated that the region recorded 996 cases and 46 deaths during the pandemic. However, the tireless efforts of health workers, chiefs, the media, and other stakeholders helped to manage the situation.
The regional minister congratulated and commended the health workers for their bravery and dedication during the pandemic. He also urged them to continue to render their services to the nation with commitment and zeal.
Since assuming office, the minister has ensured that all municipals and district hospitals in the region have a medical doctor each to improve healthcare delivery.
Overall, the presentation of certificates was a symbolic gesture to recognize the remarkable effort of health workers in the fight against COVID-19 in Ghana. The awardees expressed their gratitude to the government and pledged to continue their good work to make Ghana a healthier nation.
