A lady confirmed to be from Lawra in one of the municipalities in Upper West has referred to bride price as inexistent and that it is rather a selling price.
The lady venting her anger on Facebook was identified as Olivia Ziem Tizaayel and had to argue with quite a number of people over the issue whilst others agreed with her on the issue.
The lady’s statement in a post was:
“Bride Price: An outdated tradition holding gender stereotypes”
Explaining further, she questioned if she is a commodity to be purchased as being done during such occasions
She also explained that it creates an ownership mentality in men who at a least opportunity yell at women telling the woman her bride price has been paid hence the need to exercise control over their wives.
