Junior High School Pupils of Piree community have no option but to travel nineteen kilometers daily in pursuit of Junior High School Education due to the absence of a Junior High School in the community .

The Piree community is a small farming community located in the Nadowli-Kaleo district of the Upper West Region.

The absence of a Junior High School in the community compels Junior High Pupils to travel 19 kilometers daily to Sombo, a neighboring town which has an established Junior High school.

The Assembly member for Area Mr. Camillius Tatuora speaking to Info Radio about the situation disclosed that, the absence of a Junior High School in the Piree Community has increased the school drop out rate of girls in the community.

According Mr. Carmilius Tatuara, many Junior High School pupils in the community, especially girls are forced to drop out of school when due for Junior High School because of the long distance they have to travel to pursue Junior High School education.

The Assembly member for the area has therefore appealed to the Nadowli-Kaleo District Assembly and other benevolent organizations to come to the aid of the Piree community by constructing a JHS block for the community to enable JHS pupils easily access education to avert the massive JHS school dropout rate in the Piree community .

Per the account of the assembly member for the area, several request has been sent to the assembly to provide the community with a JHS block, but their request has still not yielded any positive outcome.

A cross -section of community members speaking to Info Radio about the situation expressed worry about how their wards loses interest in pursuing JHS education due to the long distance they have to travel daily to access JHS education in Sombo.

According to residents, during the raining season, the few JHS pupils in the community are unable to attend classes due to rains. A situation they described as discouraging for the few brave JHS pupils who are bent on pursuing JHS education no matter the cost.
