Incoming Bishop, Rev. Richard K. Baawuo shall be the fourth bishop of Upper West replacing most Rev. Paul Bemile who is going on retirement. He was ordained on the 7th of May 2016 at the Wa sports stadium. The Vice president, Mr. Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur was in attendance, other dignified people include Hon. Ambrose P. Dery; Former Mp For Lawra/Nandom Constituency, Mr. Bernard Mornah; PNC parliamentary candidate for Nadowli/Kaleo District, Dr. Ameen Sulemana; Mp for sisaala west district, Dr. Alban Bagbin; Mp For Nadowli/Kaleo District, Hon. Mathias Puozaa; MP for Daffiamah/Issah/Bissie District and many other chiefs present were to witness this commemorative occasion taking place in the region.
A Brief History About The Catholic Diocese Of Wa.
The catholic diocese of Wa was created out of the catholic diocese of Tamale on the 30th of November, 1959 with most reverend Peter Porikuu Dery as the first Bishop. The diocese is conterminous with the upper west region of Ghana with a total land area of 18,476 square kilometers. The total population as at now stands at 800,000. The tribes in the region and diocese include the dagaaba, sisaala, Birifor, waala, Kasena, Moshi. The major economic activity of the people is subsistence farming.
