At-81Black Stars coach Avram Grant has remained
defiant about his extensive stay abroad,
insisting it will cease if rampant sale of
Ghanaian players are halted. The 60-year-old has been hugely criticized for
his extensive travels with constant claims he
does not respect the local league. But the former Chelsea coach has rebuffed
the suggestions, insisting the mass exodus of
players makes it practically impossible to stay
in Ghana. ‘I work for the Black Stars and if I have to be in
Ghana, I will be in Ghana. But, you must
understand that they (clubs) are selling all the
good players to Europe so if all the best
(Ghanaian) players are in Europe, then I will
continue to go to Europe to monitor them.’ he told Accra-based Metro TV. Out-going Premier League Board chief
Welbeck Abra-Appiah led a chorus of criticism
against the Israeli gaffer for his lack of
attention on the local league. Grant recently called up only one outfield local player in his squad for the 2018 World Cup
qualifier against Comoros.
