A Former Regional Executive of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Puo-ire Prosper has revealed a possible cause of the incessant fire Outbreaks recorded in the Upper West Region in a space of 2 Months. Fire has destroyed valuable buildings in some senior high schools in the Upper West Region.

Citizen Puo-Ire writes….

Within the space of a month, the Upper West Region has recorded about five fire outbreaks in three Senior High Schools. We had three at Wa Senior High Technical School, one at Eremon Senior High School and just yesterday, another one at Ullo Senior High School.

The interesting drift about these fires is that, they generally occur at girls dormitories ( except for Ullo Sec which occurred at the dinning Hall and stores)

Last year, similar fire outbreaks occurred at the girls dormitory of T. I AMASS, Wa and Wa Islamic Senior High School.

These fires have always come with the attendant devastation of very useful infrastructure which is already inadequate at our various Senior High Schools. ( Thanks to the previous NDC Government under Presidents JEA Mills and John Dramani Mahama who consciously beefed up infrastructure in the UWR).

It is strange that, various stakeholders are not asking the critical questions of why the strange phenomenon and the particular trend ?

One answer that is not far from reach is the conspicuous fact that, the ineptitude of the Akufo Addo’s regime and their lip service to the free SHS programme has occasioned unimaginable levels of starvation at the various Senior High Schools.

The starvation has precipitated self initiated small scale cooking ,particularly by these young female adolescents who have always not been able to handle the fire after cooking.

If we must see an end to fires at our various Senior High Schools, Government must be whipped up to provide adequate food for these innocent adolescents who have become victims of poor Government.
