The Wa Municipal Chief Executive, Mr. Issahaku Tahiru Moomin has expressed concern with the rate at which people buy water ways to erect buildings in the Municipality, Speaking to Mr. Sualah Abdul Wahab of GBC, he indicated that flooding in the Upper West Regional Capital can be controlled if people stop the practice of building on water ways.
His reaction was after a past GES Director of Wa East, Madam Dominica Dery expressed dismay with how some culverts constructed by the Wa Assembly close to her residence in Kpaguri have created problems.
Madam Dominica Narrated that, construction of these culverts by the Wa Assembly have resulted in her house becoming flooded anytime it rains due to overflow of Water.
“our people like taking the law into their own hands when you have money you think you can go anywhere and buy a land and build it anyhow you want, that is why it is good to approach the Municipal authorities with your building plan then they will advise you, what I will just want to recommend is that, if you have your money to buy a land also try to meet the Municipal Assembly with your building plan, they’ll advise you looking at the area..”
