The Upper West Regional Minister, Dr Hafiz Bin Salih has given detailed account as to measures being taken by government to compensate Victims of Military Brutality in Wa over a missing phone, a development that resulted in one person sustaining a fracture on the 1st of July 2021.

He revealed the development at GBC Radio Upper West in an interview with Sayidou Bhomanjo on the 19th of July 2022.

“those involved in the Brutality won’t treat themselves,when the Victims were assaulted, I ensured they received treatment without paying a dime, I instructed that the medical bills are brought to me, I paid all medical bills, in the process, people have demanded for compensation bug government cannot just begin compensation without following due process, after the incident, two committees were set, some soldier arrived in town during class the time to investigate the issue, after the Investigations, the soldiers brought the reports to me, so the Reports are currently in my office, a Parliamentary committee in charge of defense and interior also came over the issue, Kennedy Agyapong is the Chairman of the Committee, he came with his colleagues to meet the victims, after they were done, they forwarded their Report to the speaker of Parliament, Parliament has since not communicated with government, it has to go through that process to getting to government before a white paper can be issued, government will look into the concerns and recommendations to determine if the victims should be compensated, if government seems it fit compensate them, they will partner with relevant to Authorities to determine the amount fit for them, all of that has not been done yet”

The Moderator quizzed why similar Developments in Ejura and Techiman South were Addressed whilst that of Wa had delayed

“Those issues are not same as what occured in Wa, with the issue of Ejura, the President had to set a committee but in this case it is the speaker who set the Committee, so once the issue has been analysed it will be forwarded to defense Minister before it will go to cabinet after which cabinet’s decision will also be looked into, talking of Ejura lives were lost, but in Wa we recorded 1 fracture, even my PRO was issued dirty slaps..”
