
Wa Central is the Regional Capital of Upper West Region, a Region created out of Upper Region in 1984.
The Wa District was together with Wa East and Wa West. Two Political Administrations and Social Administrations can be created on Municipality basis likewise Three if Districts are the Options.

The District was divided into Three by ex president Kufuor’s Administration.
According to the 2000 population and Housing census, the Wa Municipality had a total population of 98,675. The growth rate of the municipality was 2.7%.
Since the division in 2004, Several DCEs have assumed positions Including Members of Parliament who have also executed Various developmental tasks.
Some Popular MMDCEs that were appointed in former President Kufuor’s Administration Include Mr. Godfred Tangu and Mr. Mark Banda.

Per the 2021 Population census, the Upper West Region has a population of 901,502.
In 2010, the Upper West Region had a population of 702,110 people.
In 2000, the Region had a population of 576,583.

Wa is the Municipality with the Highest Population followed by Wa West District, Dafiama-Busie-Issa is the District with Least Population.
A Municipality is defined geopolitical area that contains at least 95,000 people whilst a district is defined area with a population of 75,000 people, A Metropolitan is an area with a population of not less than 250,000.
Wa Municipality is Equivalent to Two Municipalities or Three Districts based on the Population Recorded in 2021.
Stakeholders have been urged to put measures in Place in order to divide the Municipality because development opportununities and projects are being lost due to the fact that several jobs and opportununities could be created out of three Districts or two Municipalities.
