Teachers and other Educational Workers have begun an indefinite Stole action from 4th of July till government addresses their concerns.

The Three Teachers Association and One Non Teaching Association of the Ghana Education Service declared the strike on Monday, 4th July after failure of Government to attend to their demands for 20% Cola Allowance.

The cost of living allowance(COLA) according to the teachers is to facilitate their activities and to enable them withstand the high rate of inflation in the country.

Checks by Upperwestmedia Team at some Communities in Wa West and Wa Municipality proves that teachers have abandoned classrooms, students were left to their Faith at the Balawa Basic School in Wa West with only the Assistant Headmaster in Sight.

Students were riding bicycles around whilst others were on top of trees in search of Shea fruits.
Other students had left to the various houses as at 10:05am.

The team moved to Siiru in Wa Municipality where the Primary School had several pupils present, there were no students in present as at 10:35am on 5th of July 2022.

Checks at Dandafuro JHS and Primary proves there were no teachers and students present.

Meanwhile Ghana Education Service has also released a statement Dated 5th July 2020 and Signed By bTue National Public Relations Officer, Miss Cassandra Twum Ampofo.

Management of the Ghana Fducation Service (GES) has read from the media that the various Unions in the Pre-tertiary Education sector have declaredw of their services with immediate effect.

Management has since invited the leadership of the Unions to a meeting to discuss the development and the way forward.

Heads of Senior High Schools have been directed through the Regional and District Directors to mobilise their Management teams to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all students in schools.

Meanwhile, parents are advised to remain calm and be assured that is closely monitoring the sifuation and will advise on the wayf accordingly.

Regional and District Directors have futher been directed to ensure that Basic School Heads keep schools opened and closely supervise all children who report to school pending further directives from Management of GES.
