Black Stars coach Chris Hughton has expressed his delight at the performance of midfielder Hafiz Wonta Konkoni in training ahead of their African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers game against Madagascar.

The Ghanaian team is hoping to secure a victory against Madagascar on June 18th and Hughton believes that Wonta Konkoni could be an integral part of their success. The midfielder has been attracting attention for his high-intensity training performance, which has not gone unnoticed by the coach.

 

Hughton was particularly impressed with Wonta Konkoni’s work rate during the training sessions, commenting: “He has been a standout player in training with his energy and commitment. He showed great desire to succeed and has made an impact during the drills.”

Wonta Konkoni has been a rising star for his club Bechem United in the just ended, leading fans to express their excitement at his inclusion in the national team. He scored 15 goals at the end of the season.The midfielder has now been given the chance to prove himself for the Black Stars and his impressive training performance may give him a chance of securing a playing minute against Madagascar.

Chris Hughton, the head coach of the Black Stars on Hafiz Konkoni: noted “I was fortunate to watch him live last weekend. I have been able to watch him on video. I thought he did well today [in training].

It wasn’t a surprise because he is a player I have enjoyed watching. He is a young player so I think he has a lot of development still.

Speaking to him I think he is quite a mature player for his age.”

With the game against Madagascar being played at home, the expectations for the Black Stars are high. Hughton has expressed his confidence in his team and their ability to deliver a positive performance, but also stressed the importance of being organized and cohesive in their approach
