Wa: 14th Pharmacy Technicians Conference Held, Brain Drain is an Issue

The Pharmacy Technicians of Ghana held their 14th Conference at the Wa Technical Institute on the 31st of August 2023.

Several Dignitaries were present at the 14th Annual General Conference of Pharmacy Technicians to partner in harnessing positive outcomes in the the Profession and how to improve their services.

In attendance was Dr. Damian Punguyire, Upper West Regional Director of Ghana Health Service, he advocated for the Pharmacist to be committed and Innovative in their profession in order to motivate others into the Delicate area of Heath.

Pharmacy Technicians Association of Ghana Comprises of Members who have completed three Years Training at the Technical Universities and One Year Training at the Various Hospitals and Pharmacies.

The Theme for 2023’s Conference was Patient-Centered Pharmaceutical Care a tool for sustainable Pharmacy Practice.

According to the Public Relations Office of Pharmacy Technicians, Pharmacists are Moving Away from Medicine Centeredness to Patient Centeredness.
“.. Pharmacy Practice is moving form Medicine Centeredness to Patient Centeredness, with this we believe when there is interaction between patients and their Pharmaceutical Care providers it will help the patients in having confidence in the medications that they have received and by so doing Patients will have the confidence to ask relevant questions pertaining to their Health that is the more reason why we chose the theme..”

They also Emphasized on the fact that Some Pharmacy Technicians are leaving the country for greener pastures a development they urged stakeholders to assist them in addressing.
