A group of residents in Wa addressing themselves as  the Coalition of Concerned  citizens have setup out a date to Demonstrate on the principal streets of Wa in expression of their displeasure with the state of the Newly converted University, UBIDS.

The President in November 2018 Declared the Wa Branch of University for Development Studies as Autonomous. The University’s Name was Changed to Dombo University for Business and Integrated Development Studies.

The Coalition of Concerned citizens group have stated that the bill has not been assented by the president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and by this has left the University to faith.

This they described as an act that is collapsing the University.

Statement

The Coalition of Concerned Citizens, Upper West Region, Wa wish to inform the general public that, plans are far advanced to embark on a peaceful demonstration in other to register our displeasure against a grand scheme designed to cripple the University for Development Studies (UDS), Wa Campus as we awaits the presidential assent to the bill for the autonomous
status to take effects as SD Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies
(SDDUBIDS).

The reasons that have forced the Coalition of Concerned Citizens, Upper West Region, Wa to consider the option of peaceful demonstration are;
Delay in the presidential assent to the bill allowing administrators of UDS to sabotage
the Wa Campus.

The creation of Faculty of Communication Sciences and Cultural Studies at Nyankpala campus as duplications of FIDS programmes in Wa Campus.

The failure of the university to adhere to court order and going ahead to implement their proposed realignment and staff rationalisation scheme.

Deliberate attempts to dismember Wa Campus with new entrance as students admitted to the Wa Campus have their admission withdrawn and re-admitted to Nyankpale or
Tamale campus, respectively.

The sacking of 21 workers of UDS Wa Campus Hospital Limited as we deemed a malicious act and in bad faith.

We have slated Tuesday, 24th September, 2019 as the proposed date for the demonstration.

We will keep the general public posted on plans preparations and detailed road map regarding
the impending demonstration.

The Coalition of Concerned Citizens, Upper West Region, Wa is therefore counting on your
usual cooperation for this worthy course of action.
