The Upper West Regional Office of the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has apprehended a suspected illegal traditional medicine producer in Wa.
The FDA said the suspect, Emmanuel Bapuorador, was into the production and sale of traditional medicines without duly registering with the FDA.
Speaking to media on Friday, November 11, 2022, in Wa, Mr Kelvin Dafaari, the Acting Upper West Regional Head of the FDA, said the suspect was arrested upon a tip-off by a prospective consumer of the unregistered medicine products.
Mr Dafaari explained that the FDA received the tip-off on Thursday of the suspect selling the medicine products at the “Wa Magazine” – mechanical centre – but bolted after seeing the staff of the FDA.
The FDA head added that they launched surveillance on the suspect and accosted him at about 07:00 pm at Wa Zongo where he produced and packaged the medicine products in a single room.
Mr Dafaari indicated that the suspect had been handed over to the police to be investigated and sanctioned accordingly.
He thus urged the general public to always go to pharmacies or licensed drug stores to buy medicine products rather than buying from drug peddlers.
He also advised the public to report drug peddlers to the FDA since it is illegal to do so.
Emmanuel Bapuorador, the suspected drugs illegal medicine producer, confirmed that his activities and products labelled “God’s Blessing Herbal” are not registered with FDA.
