The Wa Municipal Education Directorate headed by Miss Sophia Dimah is set to introduce a Welfare Scheme to support teachers within the Wa Municipal Education Directorate.

The Scheme which is optional will assist teachers during bereived periods(funerals) and also when they have naming ceremonies or marriage ceremonies.

Explaining the development further some heads of Institutions noted that the development will in future be expanded from a Welfare Scheme to a credit union to further support teachers with loans at very low interest rates.

Contributions are to be deducted at source(Controller and Accountant Generals Department) and the program is likely to start with Ghc10 but maybe subjected to review in the future.

Forms for the program are currently out, tittled “WA MUNICIPAL EDUCATION DIRECORATE’S WELFARE SCHEME (WaMEDWelfs) with mantra “You Are because I am”.

The Program is limited to Wa Municipality Only.

Some teachers have expressed varied opinions with some asking what has happened to Wa Teachers Credit Union.
