Some Public Servants in Wa and Nadowli-Kaleo District have begun Processes to sue some Police officers of Police Intelligence Division for Assaulting them on 5th of February 2023.

According a Complainant, Kamaldeen Ishmail who narrated their ordeal to Upper West Media Team on Sunday 18th June 2023, he indicated that the officers Assaulted them when they called on the Police Intelligence Division to Get details as why a brother of theirs was arrested and detained on 24th of January 2023.

Kamaldeen Ishmail and Yahaya Mohammed explained how they were assaulted and detained unfairly by the Police over an issue they had little knowledge of.

“..We went to the police Intelligence Division to make enquires as to why a brother of ours was arrested and assaulted, on getting to their office we were detained and beaten mercilessly, a commander of thier group forced us us to sit ton the group and upon doing that, they ordered for cutlasses and used the cutlass to slap me, one othe policeman used his leg to kick my brother Yahaya Mohammed on his chin, this made his unconscious, were were headed over to the police afterwards..”

The Commission is in receipt of a complaint from one Yahaya Mohammed in respect of the above subject matter.

I have instructions from the Regional Director, to transmit a copy of complaint to you and to further request your written response/comments on same to reach the commission on or before 26th June 2023.

This request is in accordance with Regulation 3(1)(a) and (b) of the Commission on Human Rights and Addministrative Justice (Investigations Procedure)

Regulations 67, 2010 which provides:

“3(1) The Commission shal transmit a copy of the Complaint to and request a response from

(a) the person against whom the complaint is made, an

(b) the head of the body or organization of the Person against whom the complaint is made after receiving a complaint that is within the

mandate of the Commission.”
