Teachers Quaters not Enough

The Assembly Member for Siiru Electoral Area in the Wa West District, Mr Richard Wullo has expressed worry about the deplorable state of their primary school block at the community.

He said the school was built in 1990s with brick and that the structure is weak and serves as a threat to the school children.

The Assembly Member, who raised the concerns in an interview with Info Radio at Kangba, noted that the classrooms become a den for the animals after they have closed from school because the doors and windows are all broken.

Mr Wullo observed that Child Care International, a Non-governmental Organisation (NGO) renovated the school about 6 years ago but that the structure has gone back to normal due to the inability of the weak bricks to hold the paintings.

He therefore appealed benevolent individuals and organisations as well as the government to come to their aid with a school block.

Mr Wullo indicated that the teachers at the school do not stay at the community though there is a teachers’ accommodation due to the lack of electricity at the community.

He said the teachers commuted from Wa to the community on daily basis to teach but that some of the teachers are not regular, especially in the rainy season.

On the School Feeding Programme, the Assembly Member explained that the off-and-on manner in which the food is prepared for the school children is gradually affecting the enrolment of the children.

He said some of the children are reluctant in going to the school because they do not cook for them.
