Wa West: Kangba  CHPS Compound gets 2-kilowatt Capacity Solar Power

Ashfar Limited has installed a 2-kilowatt capacity solar system for the Kangba Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound in the Siiru Electoral Area, Wa West District to help save the drudgery the health personnel at the facility go through to render health services to the people at night.

The organisation also donated two lying-in beds, one delivery bed and a freezer for the facility, in partnership with the Wa West Member of Parliament.

They also renovated delivery room constructed by the community. The renovated and solar-powered facility was commissioned on Monday, June 20, 2022.

The intervention was after Info Radio carried a report about the challenges at the facility due to the lack of electricity.

Prior to the intervention the residents the health personnel at the facility relied on flashlights to work at night to deliver babies.

Madam Agnes Soretey, a resident of the community that the situation was negatively affecting quality service delivery at the facility, especially to pregnant women.

They said because there are no lights at the CHPS compound they have to sometimes travel to Wa for deliver at night.

They said the road is also not good and when they put a pregnant woman in a tricycle by the time she gets to Wa she is already weak.

However, the community members were full of joy after the solar system was commissioned for the CHPS compound.

The residents noted that they will now access healthcare services at the facility even at night without struggles as there are lights at the facility now.

The In-Charge of the facility, Madam Paulina Cudjoe, noted that that they will now be received from their challenges caused by the lack of electricity.

Addressing scores of community members at the community to commission the solar system, Madam Faridah Afadameh, the Chief Executive Officer of Ashfar Limited, said the intervention is part of the desire of the company to impact the lives of the vulnerable in society.

The Wa West District Director of Health Services, Madam Cecilia Kakariba, urged the community members to put the facility into good use.

She also admonished the people not to resist referral to other facility even though the CHPS compound has been electrified since the health personnel at that facility had their operational limit.
