Wa High Court

On 28th March 2023, Doma Takyiri was Sentenced to three days in Prison for Manslaughter according to the Wa High Court for Using an Object on his Son, resulting in his death.

According to the Accused person, he acted in self defense after his son attempted using same object on him during a heated misunderstanding.

Summary of Facts are below:

Domaa On 28h December, 2021 at about 1:02am, Bala Kasang of H/No. 17 BIk B Dokpong, Wa and Yikpala Naa arrested and sent to the police station the accused person,
Takyiri age 65 years together with a male adult body about 30years and the latter reported that on 27th December, 2021 at about 5:00pm,

He had a call from one Salia that on same day there was a misunderstanding between the accused person and his son, Nomayen Takyiri, an illegal miner at Duu in the Wa East District.

That the son picked pestle to hit his father but the father got hold of the pestle and hit the son’s head and also caused a Fracture to the son’s leg.

The body was conveyed to the Regional Hospital where the deceased was pronounced dead. On 30th December, 2021, post mortem examination was conducted on the body of the deceased by Dr. Emmanuel Steve Blankson of the Wa Regional Hospital who gave the cause of death as Traumatic Subarachnoid Haemorrhage.

The body was released to the family for burial. Accused person has admitted the offence and explains that it was in self in defence as the deceased intended to hit him with the pestle.
After investigations, the accused person was charged with the offence before Wa High Court.
