Citi TV’s Corresponding Reporter for the Upper West Region, Mr. Latif Mahama has drafted a letter expressing concern about the state of leadership in the country.
WHERE DID WE GO WRONG???
The journey from oppression to true liberation is not an easy one. There will be times when it will be difficult. There will be times when our leaders will have to shoulder the burden of responsibility and be brave enough for the rest of us.
That is what leadership is supposed to be. Unfortunately, this is what is lacking in Kwame Nkrumah’s Ghana.
For a moment, I have been imagining how our forefathers will be feeling in their graves.
After over 60 years of liberation, Ghana is still what it is. We drill crude but import same. Crude oil has seen a marginal price reduction by about 3.50%, but prices of Petrolium products are predicted to witness an increase in Kwame Nkrumah’s Ghana.
Where at all did we go wrong???
We “drain” the citizenry by introducing “killer” taxes, all in the name of developing mother Ghana. Yet, we keep borrowing, to the extent of sometimes putting our sovereignty on the line. Our generation will live to work for the oppressor who’s interest it is to see us poor.
My mother travels on a life threatening deplorable road from the Sissala East municipality in the Upper West region to Wa the regional capital to sell. The taxman goes to her with a big bowl, intimidate her to satisfy his master who is waiting to complete his mansion and open up his private business. Good healthcare delivery is increasingly becoming a preserve of the rich. People are dying because healthcare and other state “systems”are failing.
Yet, they make us live in false hopes, dreaming to bequeath a better country to future generations. Alas, that is a mirage!!
OH GOD ALMIGHTY, LET THY WILL BE DONE ON EARTH AS IT IS IN HEAVEN. Amen!
