It is often said, “to whom much is given, much more is expected”. We have all come from deep roots to where we are today. We all may not have reached the target we set for ourselves in life but where we have reached to, we can at least show gratitude to the almighty Allah for how far we have come.
Back then in the early 2000s, we of the later generations of Kanton SHS also joined the school. We joined it from different backgrounds. The majority came from villages in the Upper West and Upper East Regions. Then there were those of us who also came from poor backgrounds in Accra and other southern urban areas to school there. For the latter we came there with “disappointments” and perhaps “shame” for coming to attend a “village” school. Yes, that was a perception of those who have not visited Tumu or Kansec before.
But the school has a nice way of humbling everyone. Yes, the students are from villages but be on equal platform with them and you’ll realize you’re dealing with a special group of talented individuals. With no time, the ‘village boy’ and the ‘town boy’ all see their real sizes and all begin to enjoy themselves in the environment. Through this natural way of integration, Kansec has been able to produce students that are producing positive results in almost in every facet of the Ghanaian culture and economy.
Kanton SHS has produced a lot of worthy products and its platform have pushed a lot of others who didn’t complete there to also excel in so many things. So then, how then do we pay back the school? How do we pay back the teachers that had sleepless nights for us to reach where we are today?
It’s something we must all think about and push as the school will be celebrating it’s 60th anniversary this year. At least each batch of students can also meet, discuss and contribute something as its contribution to the school. A whatsapp platform of each batch can be created and each can decide on raising something for the school. There are so many things we can think of and do for a school that has done so much for us to reach where we are today.
As for our 2005 batch, I believe my brother Nurideen Tie will take up the responsibility and put us together in one platform for us to think of something. Let’s us all support to push our alma mater higher…
