Some Residents within Wuljua have struggled for years to access potable water in order to address their daily domestic problems.

Struggle for Water in Gwollu

This has compelled them to resort to dugouts for water.

Report

Getting enough clean water every day is important for one’s health.

Humans, plants and animals need water to survive because there can be no life on earth without water.

This is Gwollu, the capital of the Sissala West District in the Upper West Region of Ghana.

A section of the residents of Gwollu lower section (Wuljua), who cannot afford potable water which sells at 30ps for a Kufuor gallon and 50ps for two basins of water have to rely on this dugout to access water for every single activity that requires the use of water in their lives.

The borehole that used to be their savior in the community broke down last December and now this is their only source of water.

Gwollu is the hometown and burial place of Dr Hilla Limann, and has the famous Gwollu Defence Wall among other tourist attractions.
