Tension in Nandom over Transfer of Votes

There was tention at the EC Office here in Nandom in the Upper West Region over the eligibility of some people to transfer their votes to Nandom.

People who could not prove they are from Nandom or work there were denied the opportunity to go thorough with the Voter Transfer process.

This angered some members of the ruling NPP and led to heated arguments between resulting in the exchange of punches.

The buses, two, arrived from Tamale early this Saturday morning at about 5am and are currently parked at Zenuo Guest House in Nandom-Konyugangn as at the time of writing this report.

It is alleged that they were bused into the Constituency by the MP of the area, Hon Ambrose Dery. This brings the number of buses brought to Nandom, to four (4).

Among those bused to Nandom today were five (5) people from Lawra, six (6) from Jirapa, three (3) from Bussie (DBI) and others from the Gonjaland area.

When some of them were confronted by members of the opposition NDC, they could say which part of Nandom they come from.

One of them said he was from Nandom Bu. Asked which house specifically from Bu, he said “Bekuone Yir”. Meanwhile, there’s no such house called “Bekuone Yir” in Nandom. Another person said he was from “Nandom West”. Nandom West is an Electoral Area.

The EC Officer explained to the people gathered that anyone who has not lived in Nandom for up to 12months or is a government worker would not be allowed to go through with the transfer process.

Both the NPP and the NDC members at the centre have agreed with the arrangement and calm has since returned to and the process is going on peacefully.
