A Senior Lecturer of Dr. Hilla Limann Technical University has on the 25th Day of October 2023 advocated against punishing students in Schools for Speaking Vernacular Popularly Known as Dagaare, Waali, Sissali in the Upper West Region.

Speaking to Upper West Media Team in an Interview, he indicated that the act perpetuated by Educationist with only go a long way to affect our heritage, culture and identity.

“I don’t subscribe to punishing students for speaking what is known as Vernacular, Traveling on road from Wa to Accra I have seen inscriptions on Buildings ‘No Vernacular Here, Speak English..”

He also recounted his ordeal as a student in the Past when he resided in the Eastern Region of Ghana indicated that snail shells were hanged on the necks of students to Embarrass them for speaking vernacular.

The Second Dagaare Language and Culture Conference was held at the GNAT Hall in Wa to look into issues hindering the development and patronage of Dagaare in the Upper West Region and Beyond.
