The residents of Jongfian, a community located in the Jongfian Electoral Area in the Wa East District, are concerned about the safety of their children when going to school due to the insecurity that is affecting the community and its surroundings.

The Chairman of the Parents Teachers Association (PTA) of the Jongfian School, Dolindor Abdulai, stated that several violent attacks in recent times have created a sense of fear among parents in sending their children to school, which is now affecting the school’s attendance.

He said, “We are facing a lot of challenges in this community. Our children were attending school regularly, but the current insecurity is making it difficult for them to do so. The school’s infrastructure is also in a deplorable condition.”

Mr Abdulai further added that children from neighboring communities are now afraid to come to the school due to the recent robberies and violent attacks.

The Vice Chairman of the PTA, Babuara Kudjoe, who spoke to Info Radio emphasized that urgent attention is needed to address the situation since people are being attacked in the community daily.

The Headteacher of the Jongfian Primary School, Ebenezer Kale, stated that the situation is dire and called for urgent intervention from the relevant authorities.

According to him, the school’s population has drastically reduced from over 150 in 2022 to only 45 from Primary 1 to 6.
