Buneri Became a Bleeding Rock

About four Hundred Years ago in the 17th Century, a Chief By Name Buneri Transformed into a Rock in the Midst of a Serious chase during an Unrest at the time, he was running away from his enemies During a tribal war and in the process, he realized his enemies were drawing closer, at that point he transformed into a Rock which appeared in the form of a human.

Some Raiders following him were able to discover he was the rock because his footsteps ended at where the rock was.

Upon suspicion when his opponents arrived, they Used an Axe on the rock to confirm their suspicious and to their surprise the Rock begun bleeding, it has since bled till date.

The Community in which Buneri became a rock has been named after him as a mark to remember the incident. It’s a Farming Community inhabited by Some Lobis and has a population of up to 200 people.

The site is difficult to Access due to the deplorable nature of the road, it is about 40 kilometers East of Wa in the Upper West Region.

The Ministry of Tourism through its Upper West Regional Director, Mr. Moses Ndebugri has pledged to uplift the standard of the Tourist site to attracts visitors but very little has been done since March this Year.

According to A Report from Rafiq Salam in March 2023, it reads:

Kpaglahi is a predominant Lobi farming Settlement located in the South Western End of the Wa East District in the Upper West Region. Located a Couple of Kilometers from the Community is ‘Buneri’, Named after an Ancient Warrior who was leading his people in an ethnic war and upon smelling defeat, turned into a rock.

His clans men returned to the rock and saw blood oozing from the rock as a result of matchet wounds inflicted on the rock suspected to be a human by the raiders.

The 17th Century Buneri Christened as Bleeding Rock can be Accessed if a Traditional Consultation is Done First, one has to meet some tendeme (landlords) to lead you through to the Bleeding Rock.

It is the Believe of the People in Kpaglahi that Buneri is their forefather and have always come around to pray and offer sacrifices hoping for good fortunes. Before farming season the people come around to offer Sacrifices to the Stone with fowls, Drink or Money so that they can have a good yield, hunters aren’t left out. People from fsr places come to offer Sacrifices for favors.
