
The Upper West Regional Police Command recently organized an engagement with the residents of Kperisi community located in the Wa municipality.
The purpose of the event was to educate the community members on the operations of the police force and to foster a friendly relationship between them.
During the engagement, the Regional Police Commander, DCOP Mr Darko Offei Lomotey, emphasized the importance of community engagement in policing.
He explained that such interactions help to improve the police force’s operations within the communities and also help to prevent crimes.
The Commander also expressed his appreciation to the Inspector General of Police, Dr George Akuffo Dampare for introducing new modes of operation to the police force.
He said the IGP since his assumption of office “there’re a lot of things that he has done that have added up to efficient running of the service. One of them is the creation of the regional FPU, that’s the Formed Police Unit and for the whole region he has given as eight (8).”
“One of the things the Inspector General has also introduced is the concept of community engagement, as part of that is why we’re standing here before you to engage you to give some security ideas to kind of sensitize you and to also listen to your concerns,” he added.
Some of the residents commended the police for the step taken to improve the relationship between the civilians and the police.
They said they now understand the importance of police in the community.
