NADOWLI/KALEO AND DBI MPs PETITION PARLIAMENT FOR THE ALLOCATION OF STEM SHS TO THE UPPER WEST REGION

Today in Parliament, the Member of Parliament for Nadowli/Kaleo Constituency, Honorable Anthony Mwinkaara Sumah, submitted a petition before Parliament on behalf of the Nadowli/Kaleo and Daffiama Bussie Issa (DBI) Development Forum, advocating for the establishment of a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) school in the Upper West Region. The petition, signed by over 700 individuals, mainly from the Upper West Region, highlights the region’s need for improved educational infrastructure.

The Petition is jointly signed by the Members of Parliament for Nadowli/Kaleo and Daffiama-Bussie-Issa, Hon. Sebastian Sandaare. The petition emphasizes that the region lags behind in education and urges the government to prioritize the establishment of a STEM school to bring it up to par with other parts of the country.

The petitioners also stress the importance of equitable distribution of government initiatives, such as the STEM Senior High School program, to ensure that all regions benefit. The Nadowli/Kaleo and DBI Development Forum, led by Gbankor Naa Jemaa Matarah II, is a group dedicated to promoting the development of the area and the Upper West Region by extension. The petitioners believe that the Ministry of Education has an opportunity to address the educational needs of the region through initiatives like the proposed STEM school.

The petition was referred to the yet-to-be-constituted Petitions Committee of Parliament by the 2nd Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Alban Andrew Asiamah Amoako. The petitioners hope that the Ministry of Education will consider their request and include the Upper West Region in the STEM initiative, thereby improving access to quality education in the area.
