SISAALA CELEBRATE THE LAUNCH OF THE NEW EDITION OF THE SISAALI DICTIONARY

A new Sisaali dictionary was launched in Tumu yesterday under the theme “Sisaala language, Our Identity.” The launch ceremony, chaired by His Excellency, Kuoro Richard Babini Kanton VI, the Paramount Chief of Tumu, brought together prominent figures to celebrate this important contribution to Sisaala culture.

Among the esteemed guests were Prof. Samuel Issah from the Faculty of Ghanaian Languages, University of Education, Winneba, Prof. Abdul-Mumin Selanwiah Salifu, Principal of Tumu College of Education, Mr. Moses Luri Dramani, a lecturer from the Faculty of Ghanaian Languages, University of Education, Winneba, Mr. Charles Lewil, Director of Education for Sissala East, Mr. Nuhu Boribi, Director of Education for Sissala West, and chiefs from Kandia, Kong, Liplime and Banu.

The event included a special auction of the first copy of the dictionary. This one-of-a-kind copy was purchased by the Sisaala Union for a remarkable Ghc 1200.00. Following the launch, the dictionary will be widely available for purchase at a cost of Ghc 120.00.

The importance of the Sisaala language was a central theme throughout the launch. Speakers emphasized the role Sisaali plays in:

Enhancing children’s literacy in schools
Promoting Sisaala identity
Preserving Sisaala heritage

The chairman, Kuoro Richard Babini Kanton VI, assured the gathering of his commitment to working towards making Sisaali an examinable subject in schools.

A strong call to action emerged from the launch, urging the Sisaala community to actively promote the speaking, writing, and reading of Sisaali in homes, schools, and communities.

This call was echoed by the Dean, Faculty of Ghanaian Languages, University of Education, Winneba, Kuoru Bamula Basinjia Chieminah III, Chief of Kandia, Hon. Moses Luri Dramani, lecturer, Faculty of Ghanaian Languages, University of Education, Winneba and the Directors of Education for both Sissala East and Sissala West, who pledged to purchase copies of the dictionary for all basic schools within their districts.
