Cleanliness they say is next to Godliness and so must one be shown the clean way. Tumu lorry station that was established many years ago has been battling with a dilapidated urinary pit for a long time.

The issue of sanitation is one of the major concerns of the lorry station, there used to be a urinary pit where travelers could free themselves when they alight at the station. This structure has been in a poor condition for several years and state actors have been looking at it that way, the only place for convenience has fallen off and no one can use it to free themselves. This bad situation touched the heart of the NDC constituency Women Organizer for Sissala East, Madam Nyame Mercy.Madam Mercy took it upon her self to solve the situation, she said “i was concerned about the female gender since men could find hideouts to free themselves but women needed an enclosed place to free themselves.

I prepared a budget and started appealing for funds to help construct a urinary pit for the lorry station and my party members, especially my party women wing contributed, apart from my party members, other people outside the party supported to construct this structure”.

She said someone who was touched by the initiative called her and supported her with all the blocks needed for the project, others supported in cash and kind to see this beautiful structure, she revealed. On 18th March,2024 in the presence of the NDC Deputy National women Organizer, Madam Mensah Elorm Abigail together with some GPRTU leaders at the station and some women selling around the station including her deputy, madam Sahada Gomina and former women organizer, madam Lardy Kanton were there to see to the commissioning of the project. In handing over the structure, the NDC Deputy National Women Organizer cautioned the station leaders to put the structure into good use.In receiving the project yesterday, the GPRTU secretary Mr. Shaibu Salifu received the keys on behalf of all the leaders at the station, in the presence of all those around, he also promised to maintain the structure by renovating it to be sustained for a long time. A woman who spoke to the radford news team at the commissioning, said it was a relief that came at the right time and she was happy that women will now cover their shame when freeing themselves.Assessing the structure after the handing over, the structure is divided into two places, males and females. People can now use it to free themselves at no charge. A small board is needed to maintain the structure since the structure will need regular cleaning to make it decent for users.
