Mr Peter Maala, Upper West Regional Coordinating Director

The Upper West Regional Coordinating Council headed by Mr. Peter Maala has Outlined the Nature of the Upper West Economy and it’s fruitful areas investors can go into.

He outlined the economic structure during an Engagement with Stakeholders including staff of African Continental Free Trade Area at Blue Hill Hotel.

Brief Economy Of Upper West Region

The economy is made up of service sector employing about 51.3% of the working population, agric (30.2%) &
industry (18.4%).

Other key sectors of the economy are transport, tourism, communication and energy

Major Local Businesses:- shea processing, groundnut oil extraction, artisanal works, retail & textiles/clothing Common economic trees are shea, dawada and baobab and are available in all the districts.
