Every year, misguided, neo- colonial Dagaaba in my district gather at the Catholic Parish in our district capital, Jirapa, to perform kuori, a funeral rite, to mourn ‘Jesus’.
I find this idea of using the sacred funerary rites of the Dagaaba to mourn a so-called Jesus on a so-called Good Friday really nauseating!
Dagaaba should not bastardize their sacred cultural rites in the service of colonizing foreign religions like Christianity and Islam!
My only hope is that some revolutionary young Dagaaba will gradually rise up to challenge the neo-colonial Catholic institution from bastardizing and disrespecting our sacred Dagaare culture!
An anthropologist has described a ‘tribe’, an ethnic group, as an interest group in the promotion and defence of its culture.
Are we going to allow neo-colonial institutions like Churches and Mosques to use neo-colonial members of our society to disrespect our culture?
Are we going to march on the Catholic parishes on the next so-called Good Friday to prevent these misguided Dagaaba from performing the kuori rites as part of their foreign religious beliefs?
