
The Wa High Court held its first Sitting on May 15th after the Case of Elisha Mahama, Belinda Miller and Kankumbata were transferred from Wa District Court to the High Court.
There was a high Court sitting today 12th June 2024.
The Court indicated that The Case would be Adjourned for another 30 days to 12th July 2024 pending a response from the Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.
Meanwhile Principal State Attorney in charge of the Case in Upper West Region, Lawyer Saeed Abdul Shakur indicated that Transferring the Case from Wa To Kumasi is a wrong move since the crime took place here, he added that the case could only be moved if he petitioned the chief Justice for it’s transfer.
“..I haven’t petitioned the chief Justice for a transfer of the case so who did?, This is a way of trying to obstruct Justice, We have all the evidence with us..”
His Appeal to the High Court was backed by Lawyer Lwanga Bagonluri who also stated that the transfer of Eric Johnson’s Murder Case to Kumasi isn’t the right decision to take.
Member of Parliament for Jirapa Constituency, Mr. Cletus Seidu Dapilah spoke to Upper West Media Team in an interview, During the Interview he stated that the Decision was wrong and that They aren’t happy with the legal processes.
“We feel very sad that a matter like this will have to be played with or Toiled with by the Chief Justice. The Kumbire family of the late Eric Johnson, the youth and everybody are not happy with the manner in which the case is being handled.”
