Senior House Master of Lassia Tuolu SHS, Mr. Kumah Isaac has cleared the air on issues surrounding safety of Students in Lassia Tuolu SHS.

It can be recalled that on Saturday 15th June 2024, there was a violent clash between people of Lassia Tuolu and Kendeu over what is believed to be land related Disputes.

The senior house myself. Yes. So please, regards what’s happening in Lase. The students. Are they safe? Yes. On Saturday morning at about 9 o ‘clock, we heard noise in town. We heard gunshots. And when we inquired, we were told that there is a fight in town around the Chief’s Palace.

So we quickly mobilized our students. And we have since been trying to confine them within campus. But the disturbances have not come up yet.

We are equally scared. We’ve not gone down. The police have been coming on and off to ensure that we are safe. So far, our students are safe. And we are within campus. So you mean where police have come here to ensure safety? Yes.

The military, they’ve come here with their patrol vehicles. I’ve seen some immigration people carrying around. The patrol team is always around. So we feel quite safe on campus. So we saw students going the house. We saw some students. Is it that they signed exeat to leave or why were they going to the house? We saw some students Wa… No.

The incident happened in the morning of Saturday. And that Saturday, we had permitted all the Muslim students to go for the Eid festival. So those students, the buses came and we were here in the morning to ensure that they all moved safely to their homes. So those students you saw were students that were preparing to go for it.

It has nothing to do with the conflict. Those who were not going are around, we have over 600 students on campus, they are around and we don’t have a problem. So you think they should bring more security to the community? Of course, if there is a conflict and then we are hearing rumors that there may be a reprisal attacks, we need to be sure that we are safe. So if they can boost security on campus, that would be great.
