A former director general of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), COP Bright Oduro (Rtd) has backed calls for an extensive investigation and collaboration between the security forces of Ghana, Côte d’Ivoire and Burkina Faso to unravel the recent killing of some security officers in Wa, Upper West Region.
Speaking to Caleb Ahinakwah on Town Hall Talk on Asaase 99.5 on Friday (21 June), Oduro said “… if they are harvesting body parts, I’m sure they are transporting them outside or beyond our borders to some other countries…”
“So of course, there may be the need for cooperation with some other jurisdiction, but gain what do we know, we don’t know much, it’s up to the police… ” he added.
The lifeless body of a security guard for the Wa East district education office annex was found on Tuesday (18 June) morning, and initial checks on the body revealed that the deceased’s penis and parts of his throat had been cut off.
Another security man guarding the Wa model primary school who went missing with traces of blood around his area was discovered in a shallow grave, raising suspicion of murder
The killings seem to be following a worrying trend that saw eleven security men killed in a similar manner back in 2023 in the Upper West region.
This caused the Inspector General of Police (IGP), George Akuffo Dampare, to visit the area.
Barely a month ago, similar killings were recorded in Bole, about 100km away from Wa. A huge police deployment was effected to help apprehend the culprits.
