
The Daffiama Bussie Issa District Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) and the Inter-party Dialogue Committee (IPDC) have admonished young people to tolerate divergent views.
In a stakeholder consultative meeting with the Daffiama Bussie Issa District Inter-Party Dialogue Committee, a seasoned Development Consultant and Security Advocate Mr. Tahiru Lukman charged young people to tolerate divergent views.
Mr. Tahiru Lukman indicated that “young people are the future of this country, and should be urged to embrace tolerance; we cannot build a democracy where young peoples who are political activists or sympathizers of political parties to engage in healthy conversation devote o rancor; this will help a create a peaceful political atmosphere in Ghana as we strive to consolidate our democratic credentials in election 2024″ Mr. Tahiru Lukman, the resource person further shared experiences in political happenings in neighbouring Burkina Faso, Chad, Mali, Togo, Niger, Nigeria and others.
This situation in West Africa is a great concern to all, as the sub-region is very unstable, Ghana’s readiness to curtail violent extremism to create a healthy and tolerant atmosphere to guarantee national cohesion.
Mr. Tahiru Lukman also noted that “we cannot lose focus and destabilize the essential tenants of rule of law in a multi-party democracy; political parties who are key stakeholders and beneficiaries of the electoral systems must not exploit young peoples for election service; there is the need to shows commitment in young people’s empowerment and developments.
Mr. Tahiru Lukman added that “an empowered youth will appreciate the core values of democracy, tolerance and national cohesion. Mr. Abdul-Rahaman Osman, the Daffiama Bussie Issa District Director of NCCE, praised the inter-party dialogue committee for their continuous commitment to working to promote tolerance and nation-building.
He stated that the Daffiama Bussie Issa District Directorate is committed to engaging communities and stakeholders to preserve the district’s pleasant atmosphere.
Rev. Fr. Francis Vog-Enga who is the Chairman of the Daffiama Bussie Issa District Interparty Dialogue Committee on his part remarked that communities and other identifiable groups should be a target of advocacy and sensation; he expressed concerns about limited resources to engagement community to community engagement with young people to promote tolerance and cohesion.
The meeting had in attendance NCCE personnel and media and the Inter-Party Dialogue Committee (IPDC) comprising youth groups, religious bodies, political parties and women groups.
