
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is set to battle it out with Dr. Rashid Hassan Pelpuo In Wa Central Constituency after retaining Hajia Humu Awudu at its Parliamentary Candidate for Wa to contest in the 2024 general elections.The Constituency Replaced Mr. Ali Kamara with Mr. Hamid Osuman as it’s Constituency Chairman During the Party’s Internal Constituency Elections held on 30th April 2022.
Some Party Executives of Wa Central Constituency were Replaced.Statistics of the 2020 General Elections have indicated clearly that several Constituents voted Against President Akufo-Addo. The Incumbent President, Nana Akufo-Addo Secured 23,663 Votes summing up to 32.57% whilst Hajia Humu Awudu Polled 33,340 equal to 45.43%.
A Difference of 9,677 Votes.Dr. Rashid Hassan Pelpuo on the Other Hand Secured 39,542 Votes equivalent to 53.88% and His Presidential Candidate John Dramani Mahama by then Polled 47,984 Equivalent to 66.05%.Mohammed Sharif Of PPP Polled304 Votes Equivalent to 0.41% of total valid votes.Kuuyine Edgara Yelyaga Of LPG Political Party Polled 208 equalivalent to 0.28%. Per the Records the President Akufo-Addo fell short of 9,677 Votes in the Constituency Compared to that of His Parliamentary candidate in 2020.
The Margin has sparked Debates and has drawn attention to results of Wa Central Constituency. Is the Narrative going to repeat itself in 2024?.The NPP has a Task to Unite with Their Former Chairman, Mr. Ali Kamara whilst the NDC Has to Unite with Alhaji Hudu Mogtari.
The Wa Municipality has a little over 203,000 Inhabitants and several people have called for the Constituency to be divided into Two or three. Some Constituents in Kambali proposed the Name Wa South and Wa North indicating that Some Members of Parliament Became Lawmakers in the Upper West Region with valid votes casted in their favors not up to 16,000.
Statistics Show Clearly that Some Constituencies including Lawra, Daffiama-Bussie-Issa, Lambussie, Nandom and Sissala West Constituency have had Lawmakers Going to Parliament with votes not Up to 15,000.
