Upper West Region has several senior high schools raising hopes for citizens in the Education Sector, this means residents can have access to Senior High School Education without traveling out of the Region.

These are some of the senior high schools in Upper West Region and also Here are the establishment dates those senior high schools in the Region, you can add yours if it’s not captured:

  • St. Francis Xavier Junior Seminary: 1963, founded by the late Cardinal Peter Porekuu Dery to train young Christian gentlemen
  • St. Francis of Assisi Girls Senior High: 1959, opened by the Roman Catholics and staffed by the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary sisters
  • Lawra Senior High: October 11, 1968, with 55 students and two teachers
  • Nandom Senior High: 1968, founded by the Fathers of Immaculate Conception
  • Kanton Senior High: 1972, initially established as Kanton Teacher Training College in 1962
  • Wa Senior High: 1970, converted from a community middle day school
  • Wa Senior High Technical: March 30, 1983, initially established as a community middle day school
  • Jirapa Senior High: 1994, established as a day school with 126 students
  • St. Ignatius of Loyola Senior High: 1995, established by the Catholic Diocese of Wa
  • Islamic Senior High: 1996, established as a community-based school

  • Birifoh Senior High: November 2011, initially established as a private community day senior high school

Wa Secondary School, now known as Wa Senior High School, was established in 1961. It is one of the oldest secondary schools in the Upper West Region of Ghana.
