A quiet morning in Wa’s Kpaguri neighborhood turned somber as news spread of a family tragedy that left one young man dead and his younger brother in police custody. Fatawu Ahmed, a 24-year-old plumber known for his cheerful spirit and dedication to his work, was allegedly killed by his 20-year-old brother, Mawaz Ahmed, following a dispute in the early hours of today.
Friends and neighbors describe Fatawu as a hardworking, caring young man who had been the family’s rock since he learned the plumbing trade. Those close to the family say he took pride in providing for his loved ones, dreaming of a brighter future for himself and his siblings.
But that future was cut short in a moment of violence that no one saw coming. In an argument that allegedly spiraled out of control, Fatawu was reportedly struck on the head with a cement block and sustained multiple knife wounds. He did not survive the attack, leaving his family reeling and the entire neighborhood in shock.
Mawaz, a mason by trade, is said to have been close to his older brother, though recent tensions had reportedly begun to strain their relationship. Neighbors are left puzzled, with many expressing disbelief that a disagreement could turn so deadly between two young men who had grown up side-by-side.
The family is struggling to come to terms with the loss, while funeral arrangements have begun amid the unfolding police investigation. Mawaz is currently in police custody as officials work to piece together what might have led to the tragic incident.
