The Sissala community has been earnestly urged to take formal steps to congratulate the President of the Republic, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, following his successful election and subsequent swearing-in ceremony.
This heartfelt appeal was made by Honorable Godfred Baveru Kanton during the Lawasijan program, which was broadcast live on Sissala Radio on Wednesday, January 8, 2025.
During the broadcast, Hon. Kanton conveyed his deep disappointment that the Sissala community, especially the Sissala Youth Forum and the Sissala Union, has yet to extend their congratulations to a fellow compatriot who has achieved such a significant milestone by ascending to the highest office in the country. He underscored the importance of recognizing this achievement, not just as a polite gesture, but as a vital opportunity to promote unity and a sense of pride within the Sissala community.
Hon. Kanton further articulated that a visit to the President would serve as a meaningful platform for the community to advocate for key appointments that would benefit the sons and daughters of the Sissala. This would also allow them to engage in discussions focused on addressing the pressing developmental challenges faced by the Sissala people, such as infrastructure, education, and healthcare improvements.
In addition, Hon. Kanton made a call to action for the leadership and members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to look beyond just appointing Municipal Chief Executives. He encouraged them to consider other significant appointments that could have a profound impact on the development of the region. He highlighted that the NDC members in the Sissala area possess a wealth of qualified individuals who could occupy key positions within the Mahama government, which would ultimately facilitate greater advancements for the community.
Moreover, Hon. Kanton emphasized that the chiefs, along with the leadership of the Sissala Youth Forum and the Sissala Union, including the chiefs have a crucial role to play in effectively lobbying for these appointments during their visit to the President. By doing so, they can ensure that the unique needs and aspirations of the Sissala people are adequately represented and addressed in the national discourse.
