The Council of State elections have been finalized and Upper West Regional Representative, Mr. Kwame Mumuni has Pledged to Fight for three things to change in the positive light Within the Upper West Region.

The pledges made include lobbying for Dams, Improved Education, Roads including the Wa-Techiman Road.

The optimism of Newly elected Council of State Rep, Mr. Kwame Mumuni from Tampaala in Jirapa have been Commended, however there are other demands people expect of Him.

  1. Change of University names back to ‘Normal’. In 2019 and 2020, the Simon Diedong Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies had its name changed from University for Development Studies – Wa Campus and Dr. Hilla Limann Technical University from Wa Polytechnic. The laws establishing the Dr. Hilla Limann Technical University is the Technical Universities Act, 2016 (Act 922); the Technical University (Amendment) Act 2018 (Act 974) and the Technical University (Amendment) Act 2020 (Act 1016).

The Simon Diedong Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (SDD-UBIDS) was established by Act 1001 of 2019, an Act of Parliament in Ghana.

Several stakeholders have condemned the decision to attach names of individuals/Politicians to the Names of the Universities.

  1. Advocate for Wa West District to become Municipality. The Wa West District was carved dout of Wa District in 2004 and made a standalone district, though the District has outgrown that capacity, it’s still in the position of District instead of Municipality. Per requirement, a district should be elevated to municipality if it exceed 95,000 population. In the 2021 Population and housing census, The Population of Wa West District was 96,957 People. The statistics are obvious.

3 Advocate for our Traditional bone specialists to be supported financially, if possible placed on LEAP.

Upper West Region has several bone specialists in several areas including Duong, Bihee, Balawa and Jonga. These specialists aren’t being paid by government though they need financial support to operate. These individuals can be placed on the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) program to support their livelihood in order to be able to operate effectively.

  1. Establish at least a Factory is Shea Factory or commission abandoned factories such as the soya beans factory in Funsi to reduce rural Urban migration in Wa East, There are currently more men in Wa East Than Women According to Ghana Statistical Service retarding growth in Wa East. Men: 46,621 Women: 44,836.
  2. Established connectable roads in Wa East, absence of Roads Retarding Development. Areas like Duu West, Kulkpong, Baayiri, Katar, Loggu are disconnected from the District Capital, Funsi.
  3. Advocate for Jambussi Water Project to be protected, there is fear that impending mining Activities close to the Water Source (Black Volta) will affect the safety of Black Volta. A Staff has also called for government to replace Casual security staff with permanent ones for enforced security.
  4. Discuss the Probability of Establishing Sissala South Constituency Out of Wa East per demands by People of Funsi. These are calls made by Sissala South Unity for Development During a Press conference in April 2024.
