The Community Water and Sanitation Agency, which oversees the water supply system in Tumu Municipality, has issued a critical alert to residents regarding an alarming increase in the theft of water meters installed in homes throughout the area.
Moses Tilman, the agency’s manager, reported that at least eight water meters have been reported missing in recent weeks, leading to significant concern among local residents and businesses. Each stolen water meter not only affects the immediate homeowner but also disrupts the community’s water management and billing system.
The theft of water meters constitutes a serious criminal offence as defined by the 1992 Constitution of the Republic of Ghana. In light of this escalating issue, the agency is making it clear that law enforcement will take decisive actions against those caught engaging in such illegal activities.
“We strongly condemn this behaviour and want to remind individuals that the law will not hesitate to impose severe penalties on any perpetrators,” Tilman emphasized. The agency is committed to ensuring accountability and hopes that, through public awareness, fewer individuals will face criminal charges as a direct result of their actions.
Residents are urgently encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities that may be related to water meter theft. The agency believes that community cooperation is essential in tackling this menace and urges all citizens to play an active role in safeguarding public property. By working together, the community can help deter potential thefts and protect the vital resources that support daily life in Tumu Municipality.
