Award Winning Reggae Artiste and 5-Time Grammy Nominee, Rocky Dawuni has Paid Courtesy Call on Wechiau Naa (Paramount Chief) Naa Imori Nandong Gomah II on Tuesday, 11th March 2025 Ahead of Being Outdoored As Ambassador of Wechiau Hippo Sanctuary.

During his visit, he established a close connection with the Paramount Chief and other sub Chiefs of the Wechiau Traditional Area made up of about 110 Communities.

In an Interview with Upper West Media Team at Wechiau, Mr. Dawuni explained his mission indicating he was excited to be at Wechiau, one of the most peaceful, welcoming and development oriented Towns in the Upper West Region.

He pledged to support in projecting the Wechiau Hippo Sanctuary to the World in order augment it’s status in the global tourism space and ranking through partnership and music.

“.. Currently, the Way the World is going, if a community doesn’t find the power within their own resources and utilize the resources for their own people, there isn’t a lot of help from outside in the world so to see a community like Wechiau doing a lot in empowering their own people, I’m very very interested in collaborating to help support thier work..”

He also appealed to Wechiau Naa to reinforce and give a boost to local music and it’s industry such as Using Xylophones, Flutes, Drums due to the influence of such music in uplifting tourism.

Rocky Dawuni Advocated for the habit of Tree planting and Afforestation to be inculcated in community members adding that littering around communities should be managed through proper sanitation it order to properly conserve the environment for the future generations.

He met with a group of Women into Shea Production at Kpamfa, a community westwards of Wechiau, he motivated the women and assured them of his support, he also toured the Wechiau Shea Production Factory.

Wechiau Hippo Sanctuary is a community Based Ecotourism Site Established in 1998 by the Chiefs, Landlords and Queen mothers living in 20 Communities.
